Airlock

Usually, an airlock happens after you drain, clean, and refill your hot tub. You’ve completed your maintenance tasks, and suddenly, no water is coming through the jets. This problem occurs because air sometimes becomes trapped inside it while it’s empty.

Airlocks are relatively easy to remedy. First, open all of your jets completely. Set them to high and let them run full force for 10 to 15 seconds. Do this several times if necessary. Before you know it, you’ll see the jets bubbling up for you once more! It’s a good idea to leave the jets running for a while to make sure all the air is gone from them.

A second method for correcting an Airlock is available to you. Find the nut that connects the motor to the hot tub plumbing. Slowly loosen that nut, and you’ll hear air releasing. When water starts to leak out instead… You’ve eliminated the airlock!

Clogged Filter

Maintaining a clean filter is so important to a hot tub! Some symptoms of a clogged filter include poor water flow and slow, weak jets. If you’re noticing these things when your filter is full of dirt and debris, you want to remedy that sooner rather than later. Dirty filters are not doing the job of keeping your hot tub free of harmful bacteria and contaminants. This debris can harm you and cause damage to the hot tub as well. Check your filter regularly, and clean or change it when necessary.

Heater Failure

When you start to dip your toes into your hot tub and the water’s icy cold… that can ruin a great evening! One of the first things to look for is signs of corrosion in the heating element.  An issue with the water balance in the unit can also cause heater failure. If you’ve ruled these problems out, check for damage to your thermostat or filter.

Loud, Noisy Pump

When your pump starts to wear out and malfunction, it can get loud… and take away from your hot tub experience. The noise is most likely coming from the bearings in the motor. When you have a leaking seal or shaft in the motor, it can cause the bearings to go out. When your pump starts making noise, it’s time to get it checked out and replaced.
